What is Loft Insulation?

After Cavity wall insulation, Loft insulation is the second most effective energy efficiency measure available. Insulating lofts pays immediate dividends in the reduction of heating and cooling costs. Up to twenty-five per cent of heat loss is through lofts, that have not been insulated. Qualifying homeowners and tenants can take advantage of a government initiative and utilities grants, and have their properties insulated at little or no extra cost. Funding is available for a limited period.

How is it done?

Insulation quilts are made in a variety of thicknesses and widths to meet every insulation need. When quilts aren’t suitable, pneumatic blowers can normally blow insulation into any loft, regardless of limitations of space or shape. Machines cut the insulation wool into uniform pellets and allow an even layer to be laid across your loft giving a perfect blanket of protection.

Is my house suitable?

Loft installations require a survey prior to the installation. Various points are checked including; the depth and area of the insulation required, if there is any damp present, if the ventilation is adequate, the position of the tanks, the pipes, etc. Most properties with a loft space will qualify for insulation grants.

The surveyor’s report will determine the suitability of the property
