What is Cavity Wall Insulation?
Cavity wall insulation is one of two most effective energy efficiency measures available. Insulating walls pays immediate dividends in the reduction of heating and cooling costs. Up to thirty-five per cent of heat loss is through walls that have not been insulated. Qualifying homeowners and tenants can take advantage of a government initiative and utilities grants, and have their properties insulated at little or no extra cost. Funding is available for a limited period.
How is cavity wall insulation achieved?
Modern blow-in methods ensure complete insulation coverage with no voids, so savings are immediate. Small, easily mended, holes are drilled from the outside wall, into the interior of wall cavities. This allows the nozzles to penetrate and the insulation to reach every nook and cranny. With today’s non-intrusive techniques, there is only a minimum amount of disruption.
Is my house suitable?
Cavity Wall installations require a survey prior to the installation and the walls must have a cavity, which has not been filled. Amongst other things, the surveyor will measure the area to be insulated, check that there are no obvious signs of damp present, there is adequate ventilation, and the type and condition of the structure is sound. The surveyor’s report will determine the suitability of the property.
